"I thoroughly agree with this, and I think that those who cling to the notion of an afterlife do so in part because they fail to grasp the implications of eternity. All of human experience is transitory and finite, and the concept of eternity is one that the human minds cannot truly comprehend. Some think of it as just an unlimited amount of time, but trillions upon trillions of æons represent a mathematically infinitesimal fraction of eternity. Strangely, many of the same people who were so affronted by my suggestion of an eternal universe are somehow perfectly comfortable with the idea of an eternal afterlife, despite the fact that a human consciousness experiencing eternity would be driven to inevitable and infinite insanity."
